Welcome to Sycamore Class!

2022-2023

Welcome to Sycamore Class!

On our first day in Sycamore Class, we collectively wrote our own vision statement for the year.

We would like our class to be a happy, caring and friendly place where everyone is respected and we always put others before ourselves. We want it to be challenging as well as fun and action packed.  We want it to be calm so that everyone can always try their best.

It is going to be an action packed year in Sycamore with lots of exciting themes. I will upload the curriculum overview for each half-term as we teach it so that you can see what we will be learning. Please look at it and talk to your child about their learning.

KEY DAYS TO NOTE:

Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school on these days.

Our Forest School day is Wednesday morning. Please come to school dressed in your forest school clothes and bring your school uniform to get changed into at lunchtime.

Homework will be given out/set on a Friday. This will be in the form of Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars. A spellings text and times tables tees will be carried out on a Thursday. Children should be reading daily for 10 minutes a night and recording this in their reading diaries.

Library day is Friday. Please make sure your child brings their library book into school on this day so they can change it.

Please check out our blog and gallery for weekly updates on what we get up to!

Autumn 1 and 2: Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mr Hitler?

This term, the children will be studying World War Two with a focus on evacuees. Within their topic, we will be exploring the underlying question of 'Should children have a say in what happens to them?' This is a question that will be debated. We will also consider the values of 'conflict', 'sacrifice' and 'rights'. This half term will be heavily led by History, Art and English, however the children will also be exploring the theme through music. Other subjects will be taught discretely. Please see our curriculum overview below to find out what we will be learning in each subject this half-term.

Spring 1: Were the Mayan Civilisation Civilised?

This half term, the children will be studying The Mayans. Within their topic, they will be exploring the underlying question of 'Were the Mayan Civilisation Civilised?' This is a question that will be debated at the end of the topic. We will consider the values of judgement, tradition and class. This half-term will be lead by History, Design technology and English. Other curriculum subjects will be taught discretely. Please see the curriculum overview below to find out what we will be learning in each subject this half-term.
