    Published 25/02/21

    Hi St. Matthew's,

On Thursday 4th March (a week today), we will be celebrating World Book Day!

On this day there will not be working to our usual timetables but will be coming together to celebrate books and complete some activities related to a whole school text. Normal class zooms will not take place on this day but a zoom for each Key Stage to allow us to share the book with the children.

Key Stage 2 (Willow, Ash, Sycamore and Beech) Zoom will be at 9am.

Key Stage 1 (Rainbows, Oak and Apple) Zoom will be at 10am.

The User ID and password will be sent to you separately and will be the login details that we usually use for sharing worship.

We really hope you will enjoy the day. The activities will be available on your class 'Working from Home' pages for Thursday from next week.  Please email your class teacher with photographs of the activities that you complete as we would love to see what you get up to and see how you celebrated this special day.

    World Book Week Challenge:

During next week, we are setting you a reading challenge. The challenge is attached below, one for Key Stage 1 and one for Key Stage 2 and is designed to have some fun and enjoy the books you read. If you would like paper copies of these challenges, they will be available in the main reception area with the home learning packs from tomorrow afternoon. Please take one! You have a whole week to complete the challenge and we cwould love to see if you can complete it.

There will also be another surprise for World Book Day... but you will have to watch this space for that one!

We hope you have great fun this World Book day and we are looking forward to celebrating it with you!

  • Enjoy Reading! Virtual Library #6

    Published 22/02/21

    Good Afternoon St. Matthew's,

I hope you all had a lovely half term. Oak National Academy’s Virtual Library is back again has a new book that I would like to introduce you to.

This week's author is Domonique Valente with the book ‘Starfell: Willow Moss and the Lost day’. Domonique Valente is an author that I have not had the pleasure of reading her books. Looking at the front cover, I am enticed as I love magical books that can take me into a new world where anything can happen. This is definitely my type of book and I hope you enjoy it too.  This book is an audio book, so it is something you can listen to and enjoy whether with the family or your headphones.

“Willow Moss is the youngest and least powerful sister in a family of witches. She has a magical ability for finding lost things like keys, or socks, or wooden teeth, which is useful, but not exactly exciting.

But then, the most powerful witch in the world of Starfell turns up at Willow's door and asks for her help. A whole day - last Tuesday to be precise - has gone missing. Now Willow holds the fate of Starfell in her rather unremarkable hands. Can she save the day by finding the lost one? “

    Published 09/02/21

    Good Evening St. Matthew's,

Oak National Academy’s Virtual Library has a new book that I would like to introduce you to. This week's book is Cookie! and the Most Annoying Boy in the World by Konnie Huq.

“Cookie thinks her life is over because her best friend is moving to Solihull. She begs her parents for a pet to fill the void and sets her heart on the cutest kitten in the pet shop, Bluey. But then the most ANNOYING boy she's ever met in her entire nine years buys Bluey and renames her Nigel! And then he joins her year at school! If that wasn't bad enough, he then moves in next door to her. AAAAGGGGHHHHH!

But it's not all bad. Cookie gets the chance to go on her favourite TV show, Brainbusters. It's only a chance though - she'll have to win the school science competition first, which shouldn't be too hard. All she has to do is keep her head down, but unfortunately that's not Cookie's strong point...”

Konnie Huq used to be a CBBC presenter on Blue Peter and has since become an author. This is the first book in the series. Instead of publishing it as an Ebook, this week, you can listen to the audio book of her story. I hope you enjoy it.
