  • Girls Football @ Oakmoor 12/6/25

    The girls of St. Matthew’s made their school proud at this week’s inter-school football tournament, showing not only skill on the pitch but also leadership and teamwork off it. Two teams represented the school—St. Matthew’s Green and St. Matthew’s Purple—and both delivered outstanding performances.

    St. Matthew’s Green fought hard throughout the tournament and secured 2nd place in the Plate Competition, demonstrating resilience and determination in every match. Meanwhile, St. Matthew’s Purple triumphed in the Cup Competition, taking home the top prize after a series of impressive wins.

    What made the day even more special was the way the girls ran their own teams. From making substitutions to managing tactics, they took full responsibility for giving everyone a chance to play and contribute. Their commitment to fairness, inclusion, and teamwork was truly inspiring.

    The tournament was a celebration of sport, friendship, and empowerment—and St. Matthew’s girls led the way with pride.

  • Quidditch @ Perins 10/6/25

    After watching the fast-paced game and cheering on their favorite teams, the children were guided through a beginner-friendly Quidditch workshop. With brooms in hand and safety gear in place, they practiced flying techniques, learned how to pass the Quaffle, and even tried their hand at dodging Bludgers—safely enchanted for training, of course.

    Throughout the session, the children demonstrated impressive teamwork and listening skills. They communicated clearly, supported one another, and quickly grasped the importance of cooperation on the field. Coaches and volunteers praised their enthusiasm and ability to work together, noting how well they adapted to the challenges of the game.

    By the end of the session, the young participants had not only learned the fundamentals of Quidditch but also built confidence and camaraderie. It was a magical experience that brought the spirit of the wizarding world to life through play, learning, and shared adventure.

  • 🌟 Year 5 Girls Charity Run: Raising Funds for Cancer Research UK 🌟

    We are incredibly proud to share the inspiring efforts of five of our Year 5 girls—Emmy, Grace, Jasmine, Amelia, and Lidia—who have taken on a remarkable challenge to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

    Motivated by a Newsround report on cancer, these compassionate and determined young girls decided to take action. From 28th April to 23rd May, they committed to running laps during their playtimes and lunchtimes for 20 days—all in the name of supporting vital cancer research.

    Their dedication, teamwork, and enthusiasm have been truly heartwarming, and they’ve already made a big impact within our school community. We are so proud of their initiative and the values they’ve demonstrated—living examples of our school’s ethos of Faith, Respect, Achievement, and Friendship.

    💖 Well done, girls! You are an inspiration to us all.

  • Rounders @ Oakmoor 22/5/25

    On a bright and energetic evening at Oakmoor, our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 pupils took part in an exciting rounders tournament, showcasing not only their athletic skills but also their outstanding sportsmanship and team spirit.

    The Year 3/4 team played with great enthusiasm and determination, demonstrating excellent teamwork and resilience throughout the matches. Despite some close games and impressive performances, they finished in a commendable 4th place. Their positive attitude and support for one another were truly inspiring.

    Meanwhile, the Year 5/6 team delivered a fantastic display of skill, strategy, and collaboration. Their hard work and seamless team play led them to victory, winning the tournament in style! The team’s unity and encouragement of each other were a joy to watch and a credit to our school.

  • Teddy Bear Orienteering @ Eggars 13/5/25

    This week, our wonderful Year R and Year 1 children embarked on an exciting adventure that combined teamwork, exploration, and a whole lot of teddy bear fun! The children took part in a special Teddy Bear Orienteering Challenge, where their mission was to rescue six lost teddy bears hidden around the school grounds of Eggars.

    To save the teddies, the children had to complete six teambuilding challenges, each designed to test their communication, cooperation, and problem-solving skills.

  • Year 2/3 Dodgeball @ Eggars 7/5/25

    Eighteen Year 2 and Year 3 children from St. Matthew's School had a fantastic afternoon at Eggar's School, playing in three teams: Green, Yellow, and Purple. Each team showed great spirit and sportsmanship. The Green team was agile and coordinated, the Yellow team excelled in teamwork and communication, and the Purple team displayed resilience and encouragement. The children played with enthusiasm and respect, making the day memorable for everyone involved.   • Year 3-4 Netball Festival @ Langrish

    A group of enthusiastic children from Year 3-4 participated in a netball festival held at Langrish. The event was designed to enhance their netball skills through various drills and small matches, fostering both individual and team development.

    The festival began with skill-building sessions where the children practised passing, shooting, and defensive techniques. Coaches provided guidance and encouragement, helping each child improve their abilities and gain confidence on the court.

    Throughout the matches, the children demonstrated exceptional teamwork. They made a conscious effort to include all players, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to contribute. This inclusive approach not only strengthened their team dynamics but also created a supportive and positive environment.

    The children exhibited outstanding sportsmanship during the festival. They respected their opponents, followed the rules, and handled both victories and defeats gracefully. Their positive attitude and fair play were commendable, reflecting the true spirit of sports.

    Listening skills were another highlight of the day. The children attentively followed instructions from their coaches and peers, which significantly improved their performance. Their ability to listen and respond effectively was a key factor in their success during the matches.

    Overall, the netball festival at Langrish was a fantastic experience for the Year 3-4 children. They not only honed their netball skills but also learnt valuable lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship, and listening.   • Tag Rugby @ Oakmoor 3/4/25

    Our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 students recently participated in exciting Tag Rugby tournaments, competing against four other local schools. The children played exceptionally well, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the event.

    Highlights

    • Teamwork: Our students worked together seamlessly, supporting each other on and off the field.
    • Sportsmanship: They showed respect for their opponents and played fairly, embodying the true spirit of the game.
    • Performance: The children showcased their skills and enthusiasm, making us proud with their efforts.

    Tournament Results

    The results were that the Year 3/4 Team came 3rd place and our Year 5/6 team came 4th place in their respective competitions.

    The tournaments were a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop their rugby skills, build friendships, and enjoy the thrill of competition.   • Year 3/4 Tennis @ Eggars 1/4/25

    Nine Year 3/4 students from our school recently enjoyed a fantastic tennis festival at Eggers Secondary School. The event was packed with skill-building sessions and friendly matches against other schools.

    Skill Development

    Students practiced:

    • Forehand and Backhand Strokes
    • Volleys
    • Footwork 
    • Racket Control

    Our students played enthusiastically, showcasing their new skills and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship in matches against Ropley. 

    Highlights

    • Team Spirit: Cheering each other on.
    • Sportsmanship: Playing fairly and respecting opponents.
    • Achievements: Impressive shots and skill improvement.

    Narrowly losing on overall points to Ropley 112-110 points.
