Banquet for war heroes
On Tuesday 20th November the children in Beech and Sycamore Classes hosted a banquet for some guests who had served in the military.
The children decided to put on this banquet in honour of Tom Adlam who was a head teacher of our school a long time ago. He was a fantastic head teacher, but also served in the army in World War One and Two. He showed great bravery and won the Victoria Cross for valour. There are not many people who are given this medal so we should be very proud of him.
The children have been finding out about Tom Adlam as well as researching the different wars. They wanted to show their thanks to people who served in these wars so decided to put on a banquet for them. We were so pleased to welcome six guests from the local area. The children really enjoyed talking to them and hearing some of their stories.
We were thrilled that the son and granddaughter of Tom Adlam, Clive and Hazel, were also able to attend and we heard some more stories about life in Blackmoor 80 years ago.
It was a fantastic day for us all and we would like to thank all of our guests for making it such a special occasion.
