Once Upon A Time, there was a Friendly Dragon (Week 7)

YOUR WEEKEND CHALLENGE: When watching TV or a video, ask an adult to turn on the subtitles. Turning on the subtitles has been proven to aid with word recognition and can improve reading skills.  Can you find the word 'YES'.

During our seventh week in Oak class we have continued our topic of ‘Once Upon a Time, in the Deep Dark Wood’.  What have we been up to?

Oak Class were awarded their class treat this week! They chose to spend time learning about Miss Soal’s bearded dragon (See Gallery for photographs of Pod) and watch some of the film ‘Paddington 2’. Well Done Oak Class for getting 50 class points!

English – We been doing lots of writing this week. We have published our final outcome piece, using our Hot Writes to aid us with meeting lots of targets. We have also had an exciting time writing about Pod the Bearded Dragon (See Gallery for photographs of Pod). We started our ‘Pod’ stories with ‘Once Upon a Time’.

At home you could … write a story about a pet you have at home or an animal which you would like to own. Can you start your story with ‘Once Upon a Time’?

Mathematics – We have been writing number sentences this week. We have learnt the + add symbol and the = equals symbol. We have written lots and lots of number sentences, making sure the symbols were in the correct place.

At home you could … Listen to this song! Can you write down the number sentence BEFORE Jack shows you the answer? You may need to pause the video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqQ1VkBvuRs

Phonics – We have been learning the digraphs oo and ar. We have been reading and writing words with oo and ar in. This week we have also been working on our sound pronunciation (i.e. ‘f’ not ‘f-er’). We have been looking at the new Tricky Words: their and were

At home you could … watch this sound video and copy the lady’s pronunciation of phonemes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqhXUW_v-1s

Music – We have been exploring different instruments and the sounds that they make. We have been singing this silly tune, maybe you could try it at home?

“I was walking through the forest when I heard a silly sound, and the sound sounded something like this….(Make a sound using something at home)” What did you hear?

Science – We have been building houses for the Three Little Pigs using a variety of materials.

At home you could … build a house for THE WOLF using only manmade or only natural materials.

PE – We have been doing some class Yoga. We have thought about how we are going to point our toes and move between balances safely.

At home you could … show your family some of the Yoga poses we have been doing in PE.

IF YOU DO ANY OF THESE ACTIVITIES AT HOME, PLEASE LET MISS SOAL KNOW SO THAT WE CAN SHARE IT WITH THE CLASS! :)

Between our lessons we like to keep active, dance and sing. Here are a few of our favourite songs and videos from this week:
